Litterboom is an innovative environmental organisation in South Africa aimed at addressing plastic pollution in water bodies. The non-profit install floating booms to collect plastic from rivers before entering the ocean. Thanks to the anchored booms, Litterboom have prevented over 500,000kg of plastic from reaching the ocean.

The organisation also arrange beach cleanups have been vital in restoring Durban's beaches following unprecedented flooding in April 2022. Community outreach and education about the damaging impact of waste has also improved behaviour around waste management in places underserved by municipal waste management.

Run the Rivers route

Litterboom partner with U.S.-based Parley for the Oceans, and also organise novel fundraising events like their 5-day Run the River race.
