Lansing Community College is part of a group of seven community colleges to have been awarded grants from Generals Motor Corporate to develop advanced manufacturing in taught curriculm.

Ivy Tech (Indiana), Columba State (Tennessee), Owens (Ohio), Johnson County (Kansas), St. Charles (Missouri) and Imperial Valley (California) also received part of a $600k pot from General Motors. Each community college will receive up to $40k to spend on manufacturing courses, administered by American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

Michigan has the 5th largest advanced manufacturing workforce in the country, with more than 65,000 workers employed in advanced manufacturing industries in 2019.
