Building Community Value is a nonprofit organization that works to implement and facilitate real estate development projects in underserved Detroit neighborhoods. They respond to the aspirations of Detroit residents who are most directly impacted by development in their neighborhoods. BCV provides training, technical assistance, and financial support to help residents and community organizations develop and implement their own real estate projects.

Their "Building Better Blocks" program takes students through a 7-part, in-person course outlines the principles of rehabilitation - Acquisition, Financing and Project Management. The course fees are $150 and the next intake will be in 2024 (their Winter 2023 cohort is set). The Resources page is also helpful for understanding real estate in Detroit.

Chase L. Cantrell is the executive director and founder of Building Community Value. An alumnus of the University of Michigan Law School, Chase specialized in real estate and corporate law and has facilitated corporate and real estate acquisitions, sales, and other complex transactions for clients of all sizes (from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies).
